We are delighted to announce that Professor Colin Steele has been appointed as the new Discipline Head of Education (DHoE) for the Foundation Studies Programme from 1st August 2024 for a period of three years. Colin takes over from Dr Jonathan Sly, who has held the DHoE role for the past 5 years.
Dr Jo Cartwright has also been appointed as Head of Foundation Studies from 1st August 2024. Jo takes over from Professor Andy Weightman.

This academic year saw the re-launch of Managing My Future – an interactive and engaging, two-hour employability session for all 2nd year students in the Faculty of Science & Engineering. Managing my Future was designed by the FSE careers team with the aim to inspire students to make the most of their second year and proactively prepare for their futures.
The University is seeking nominations for The Times Higher Education Awards in various categories to showcase our exceptional projects, people, and teams.
In September 2025, the University will move to a new CLE. To support this activity, FSE has created an Implementation group led by Co-Leads for the Digital and Flexible segment of FSE Teaching College.
The University has been named an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research by UK’s lead technical authority in recognition of its internationally leading cyber security research.
The SEP evaluation committee is seeking feedback from a variety of colleagues and students to evaluate the ‘people and structures’ component of SEP.
